ECPIR is the acronym for “Education Curricula Project In Rehabilitation”, a Tempus MEDA action, funded by European Commission. The Tempus MEDA programme enables universities from EU Member States to cooperate with the Mediterranean partner countries in higher education modernisation projects.
The medical speciality of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PMR) is lacking in Moroccan Universities. On the other hand, there is an urgent need for PMR professionals in Morocco, to ensure various services in rehabilitation at a national level for the benefit of patients and disabled people.
ECPIR’s primary objective is to set up in Rabat two Master courses in PMR, lasting 3 years (2006-2009) each and running in a parallel way. A course is for 20 Medical Doctors, with the aim of creating a new professional profile in the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy, University Mohammed V Souissi. The second course is for 20 Physical Therapists. At the end of the project, Moroccan participants will have expertises to become a “dissemination centre” in their country, by sharing knowledge, competence, and operational technical ability. Moreover, ECPIR may have beneficial and synergistic effects on the Moroccan efforts to accelerate social and economic development.
The project team features academical, technical and clinical partners from University of Messina (Italy), University Mohammed V Souissi, Rabat (Morocco), Paris V University René Descartes, Paris (France), as well as management and administrative coordination from UNIMED, Rome (Italy).
